Carvell Coventry Bears Academy got their revenge for the first game of the season defeat at Bristol on Saturday with a comprehensive 44-10 victory.
In a tight first half it was Bristol Sonics that opened the scoring following some ill discipline by the home side. Stand Off half Dom Swann forced his way over the line and then converted his try to make it 6-0. Bears second row Ryan Jenkins pegged a try back with Stand off Chris Brown adding the extras.
Bears winger Tanaka Chaunokara went in down the right hand side only for Bristol Sonics Scrum Half Tom Curtis to bring the scores back to all level at 10-10 at Half Time.
The second half was only seconds old when Tanaka Chaunokara seized on the ball in his own half and tore down the wing to score. 7 minutes later the winger completed a hat trick again beating the defence with a burst of speed. Two tries for the Bears in two minutes from Second row Mark Challis and Scrum Half Sam Montague took the game beyond the reach of the Sonics. The defensive efforts of the Sonics in the first half were beginning to tell and despite some punishing runs they were unable to make any headway against the solid Bears rearguard.
Coventry’s other winger Terence Kuvarega also showed he has speed to burn with a brace of tries before the final whistle to give a flattering scoreline that looked unlikely at half time
