Bears Ladies win by default

6. June 2009

Coventry Bears were let down today when Wakefield Panthers were unable to raise a team for their National Conference League fixture.
Skipper Debbie Drake said
“This was our first home game of the season and we were looking at putting out a good team this week, with a good mixture of experienced players and some new girls. But it was one of those things we get the 24-0 win so at least we walk away with the points but we really wanted to test ourselves against the more experienced Yorkshire side.”
Fortunately the Bears ladies had already organised a second game for this weekend against the RAF to be played at OC’s on Sunday (kick off at 2.30). Debbie went on to say
“This was a game designed for our new recruits this year to give them an opportunity to have a run out and for us to try out some girls in new positions, with the old girls guiding the ship around. We played the RAF last year and it was a really good game for all involved and we are hoping to repeat the experience again this year.”
Next week a 9’s tournament has been organised to be played at OC’s starting at 12pm but further details to follow.
Then on the 27th June the ladies face a big test when Bradford Thunderbirds travel down the M1 to take on the Coventry side.
