Carvell Coventry Bears season came to an inglorious end at the Bay today.
The massive loss of forwards due to injuries finally told as the the Bears crashed to their first ever “nilling”.
Two penalties had given the Outlaws a 4 point advantage by midway through the first half. The Bears playing against a stiff wind had seemed to be in contention. Two converted tries before half time had eased the Outlaws in to a somewhat flattering 16-0 scorline at the break.
With the Bears always having to push forward and chance their arm, the Outlaws capitilised on every mistake the Bears made. That lack of forward power had meant that the speedy Outlaws outfit were never really challenged down the middle and the Outlaws scored steadily throughout the half without the Bears really threatening the home sides dominance.
Buit all credit to a highly skillful Nottingham any side that can post 44 unanswered points can be rightly proud of a job well done.
The Outlaws now go on to face the team that the Bears defeated in the semi finals last year, Carlisle Centurions at the same Rochdale venue as last year.
On behalf of the Carvell Coventry Bears and I’m sure all of the other midlands clubs we wish the Outlaws all the very best in the competition.
