Bears u15s 42-24 Nottingham u15s

On a rare sunshine but breezy day the Carvell Coventry Bears under 15s took on Nottingham Outlaws u15s in a very physical but fair and entertaining game.

The Bears started very brightly scoring out wide through Scott Sowerby after just 2 mins. Nottingham were having trouble dealing with the pace of the Bears’ attack and were breached again with a try for Rob Gay, converted by R. Stevenson.

To their credit the Outlaws came back with a deserved try to make it 10 – 6 in the 13th minute. After a lot of pressure by the Outlaws in the Bears’ half, Captain Sam Keating intercepted a pass in his own twenty two and set up the break for Shaun Sandhu who ran forty metres to off load to the supporting Austin Wallace who touched down for his first try on his debut.

The last try of a pulsating first half was scored under the posts by a rampaging Andrew Stevenson, converted by R Stevenson.

Half Time 22-6

Nottingham came out flying in the second half and pulled a converted try back with a superb run by the Outlaws captain. An error by Nottingham from the restart allowed A Stevenson to score his second try under the posts, again converted.

Pressure from the Coventry team forced a drop out from under the Outlaws posts which the Bears allowed to bounce into touch this gave Nottingham the ball back which they exploited to the full with a great individual try by Zubair Mahmood (Coventry Bears player who kindly offered to play for the Outlaws as they were short).

A breakaway try for Rob Gay, his second of the game, extended the bears lead to 16 points and two more quick tries by A Stevenson and Austin Wallace put the game beyond doubt, however the Outlaws had the final say with a converted try under the post in the last few minutes.
