Coventry Bears Press Release
On Sunday the 6th of April at 230pm the Coventry Bears will play St Albans in a replay of last years National Grand Final at OC Stadium.
Last years grand final defeat was the Bears only loss for the season in what proved to be a hard fought and tight encounter.
2007 was a great year for the Bears and 2008 is shaping up to be even better.
The full list of playing achievements for 2007 is:
- 100% winning record in the RLC Premier Midlands
- Winners RLC Premier Midlands Final
- Runners up in the National RLC Premier Grand Final
- Academy team made the RLC regional play-offs
- Women’s team made the Midlands Final
- Under 15’s undefeated
- Winners of the Kilkenny 9’s
Success on the field was matched by success off the field, and the full honours list is:
- Rugby League Conference ‘Club of the Year’
- Ty Watson – ‘Coach of the Year’ in the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sports Awards
- Ron Banks – RLC ‘Lifetime Achievement award’
- Kevin Hayes – Rugby League ‘Midlands Volunteer of the Year’
- Debbie Drake – Rugby League ‘Midlands Young Volunteer of the Year
- Alan Robinson: Full Ireland RL International cap
- Tim Stevens (Ireland) and Scott Clendenning-Fenton (Scotland) ‘A’ RL International caps
- Alex Brown and Iestyn Pratt – England Lionhearts 2007
- Stuart Lee – RLC Premier top try scorer
- Graham Healey – RLC Premier top points scorer
- Stuart Lee – Conference young player of the year (shortlist of 3)
- Ty Watson – Coach of the year (shortlist of 3)
Head Coach Ty Watson is keen to gain revenge and has named a strong side that includes 11 members of last year’s grand final team. The rest of the squad will include impressive new signings Ben Massivo and Tim Farnden as well some members of the promising Academy squad.
