A little bit of history was made on Saturday when the first all Warwickshire rugby league local derby took place in Coventry at Old Coventrians RFC..
Coventry Bears Academy hosted neighbours Leamington Royals in the Kukri Midlands Merit League.
The Royals had played their first ever game two weeks ago when they narrowly lost out to Birmingham Bulldogs Academy
The Royals took the lead but could not consolidate as each time they scored the Bears managed to pull a try back.
Going into the last few minutes the visitors had a 22 ponts to 18 lead, however the never say die Bears came up trumps with a converted try to take the lead for the first time in the match and see off their local rivals.
The Royals can count themselves a little unfortunate not to gain at least a draw. The two sides meet again in the reverse fixture next week and todays win will certainly have the new boys fired up for as they seek revenge.
Final Score Coventry Bears Academy 24 Leamington Royals 22
Bears win Warwickshire bragging rights
