Carvell Coventry Bears triple header vs Nottingham

The Carvell Coventry Bears Ladies are expecting yet another hard test of their ability this weekend when they face Nottingham outlaws women at Old Coventrians on Saturday 7 July, k.o. 12:30.

After coming away from Nottingham in their last encounter as narrow winners the bears are expecting this weeks visitors to push them all the way again.

The Ladies’ will be putting out their strongest squad of the season with the return of Helen Price into fullback leaving the attacking Jo Hart to return back to the centres. Stacey Tolley and Kerry Williamson will be returning to the forwards after injury providing strong runner options and Lizzy Holbourn and Elaine Limond (Monty) will be again pairing up the halves.

Coach Michelle Umaga hopes these will be the winning formula for the team, “Having 2 experienced halfbacks playing together will mean that we will be able to get the ball out to backs a lot faster and hopefully do some damage points wise that way”.

The girls are really looking forward to this game as they know how close these games are against Nottingham and will give them a chance to shine in front of the home crowd.

This Saturday’s game is part of a home triple-header against Nottingham Outlaws with the Under 15s kicking-off at 1:00 pm and the Men’s 1st team underway at 14:30. All game’s to be played at Old Coventrians Tile Hill and entrance to all three games is free.

Head Coach Ty Watson sees this week’s game against last years Midlands Champions as the real test of his currently unbeaten team. “Last Season the Outlaws were the benchmark in Midlands and beating them 16-10 on their own patch earlier this year shows there is little between the two sides. The boys defence in last weeks 40-0 defeat of Derby was particularly pleasing and the I’ll be looking for another shut out to make it ten wins from ten. This is where we find out if we are pretenders or contenders! With the right game and the right result we san send out a real message.”

With the Men’s Academy side winning 90-18 last week against Redditch there’s real competition for places in what could be the game of the Season. The Academy side are in action away at Wolverhampton who will be looking for revenge after going down 92-12 to the Bears in round 4.
