Sunday 25 November 2007 saw the Carvell Coventry Bears AGM sign off another highly successful year in style. This year saw the Bears turn out two Men’s teams, and under 11, 13 and 15’s and a Women’s team, with the Men’s team having 100% success in the Rugby League Conference Midlands Premier division only to lose narrowly in the Grand Final.

Marathon Man Matt aiming to make history

Matt King is a remarkable young man. In April 2004 at the age of just 17, playing in his first professional Rugby League match for London Broncos Academy, Matt sustained a serious spinal injury 20 seconds into the game which left him permanently paralysed from the neck down and requiring a ventilator to breathe.

On Sunday November 4th, the plan will become a reality when once again Matt will make history by becoming the first person with his level of injury to attempt the Marathon.

John Bentley at Sportsman's Dinner

Old Wheatleyans RFC have extended an invitation to all Bears people (and anyone else) to attend a superb evening’s entertainment, with Guest speaker JOHN BENTLEY (yes, he of Great Britain Rugby League and British & Irish Lions and England RU).

The evening kicks off at 7.30pm on the 6th April at OW’s Fleet Street venue, and the cost is £20, including ‘Alan Partridge’s Famous Curry’.

Free Refereeing Course

The Student Rugby League is putting a refereeing course on at one of the Universities in the Midlands, venue TBC on Saturday and Sunday 5th and 6th of December.

Post-Final Party

The players, backroom staff etc will be holding an after-match party at the Glasshouse, Bullyard, City Centre on Sunday evening, at approximately 7.30/8pm (depending on arrival time from Widnes). All supporters are invited to – hopefully – celebrate the team’s success in bringing the National League Three trophy home.
