Carvell Coventry Bears under 15s 32 – 16 Thorne Moor Marauders
The Carvell Coventry Bears under 15 kept their unbeaten run going with a hard fought victory against the Thorne Moor Marauders on a wet Sunday afternoon.
Although it was the Marauders who started the game strongly it was the Bears’ who scored the first points with a well worked try in the corner for Scott Sowerby. There followed a ten minute spell of tremendous defensive tackling by both teams which resulted in the Marauders getting back on level terms after a Bears knock on.
The wet conditions were having an impact on the handling and both teams were guilty of dropping the ball; however the Bears did put together the best move of the game spreading the ball from one side of the pitch to the other to allow Thomas Hale to run in unopposed.
Straight from the restart a brilliant solo run from Richard Stevenson set up the Bear’s third try for Josh Knight.
Half Time: 12- 4
Six minutes into the second half Josh Knight scored his second try after a fine chip and chase which he then converted. Thorne Moor replied with a lovely try in the corner after neat work created an overlap.
This only served to spur the bears on, scoring two tries in three minutes, the first from Shaun Sandhu and then by Josh Knight; his hat trick.
Undeterred, the away team fought back and a precise kick from the Marauders Captain was well caught by the number 4 for their third try. The Bears came back strongly to put the game out of reach with another superb handling move after patient build up led to a second try for Scott Sowerby.
Once again the visitors had the final say with the outstanding Marauders Captain getting a well deserved try.
