Carvell Coventry Bears kept up their impressive start to the season with a well deserved victory over Telford Raiders at Oakengates on Saturday, scoring 10 try’s in the process.
Sticking to their current trend, the Bears went behind after a good break from the Raiders after 5 minutes only to hit back quickly with a try from hooker Matt Allsopp. It was Coventry who troubled the scoreboard next with a try from the Bears winger Luke Montague. Telford drew level again after another fine break and it seemed like it was going to be a close battle in the heat. The Bears lost Captain Iestyn Pratt to an ankle injury but fought back to score with the half 10 minutes from over with a try from full back Stuart Lee. The Bears capitalised on some Telford mistakes and after some neat work from Hooker Matty Alsopp, Tony Wildsmith playing in the centres crashed over the line to send the Bears in 18-10 up at the half way point of the game.
In the second half the Bears stamped their authority on the game and persistent attacking brought Stuart Lee his second try of the day. J&S Landscapes Man of the Match and loose forward Clem Muchiti worked tirelessly and along with prop Rhidian Booth kept the Bears on the front foot. Booth’s hard work paid off as he picked up a score to stretch the Bears lead.
As they were just pulling away from Telford, the Bears had a couple of scares as Telford hit back with two more tries. However a brace of tries from stand off half Graham Healey and one try from both prop Alan Robinson and second row Tim Stevens gave the Bears that final edge over their opposition that they needed to finally put the opposition to bed and holding on to a 46- 24 victory.
Team Stuart Lee, Peter Parker, Tony Wildsmith, Iestyn Pratt, Luke Montague,Graham Healey, Nathan Harrison, Rhidian Booth, Matt Allsopp, Alan Robinson, Tim Stevens, Arron Jarvis, Clem Muchiti, Alex Brown, Jonny Tipton, Johnny Nicholls, Neil Lightowler.

Chris Brown playing at stand off scored a try and also kicked 14 from 16 conversions this on his debut!
Special mention to to new signing Ian Williams who agreed to play for the Wizards on loan.
We also welcomed back one of our founder players in Glenn Todd.
Glen has re-signed for us and showed he still has much to offer. He played against us yesterday as a loan player facing up to his son Mitchell. Bragging rights in the Todd household definately go to young Mitch with his hattrick. I’m sure Glenn will respond with tales of derring do in his previous spell with the Bears.
