Top of the table clash !

13. July 2008

Next Saturday July the 19th sees the top of the table Nottingham Outlaws visit Old Coventrians RFC (2:30).
The Outlaws are unbeaten this season and threaten to take the midlands champion crown from the Carvell Coventry Bears.
The Bears must defeat the Outlaws by a bigger margin than the 28-6 that separated the two teams last time they met.
whilst the ultimate champions will not be decided until next month, a win for the Outlaws will see them regain the Minor Premiership shield that the Bears took from them last year.
The two sides are evenly matched and the game promises to be a “humdinger”. No Coventry V Nottingham game is ever easy and there have been some titanic clashes between the two sides. The Bears just shade the overall number of wins, but Nottingham are firing on all systems this year and will be eager to “do the double” on their old foes.
For the Bears this will be the opportunity to make amends for a poor display at Nottingham earlier this season.
For anyone contemplating coming to see the game they can be sure that they will see the best rugby league that the midlands has to offer. Neither side will take a backward step.
There will be an interesting duel between the top points scorers too.
With the Bears game at Birmingham being called off, Nottingham’s Paul Calland and Ben Thornton took the opportunity to sneak to the tops of the try and points scoring tables.
Calland heads the try scoring list with 17 tries closely followed by the Bears Ben Powiss with 15 tries and Matt Cooper with 14.
On the overall points table
Thornton has 118 points whilst Coventry’s Graham Healey has 116.
The most goals table however is still topped by Graham Healey with 52 against Ben Thonton’s 43. Come along on Saturday and watch the fireworks!!!!
